Dear Esther is a first-person art video game developed by The Chinese Room and distributed by Steam for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. The game was first released in June 2008 as a free mod source engine, the game was entirely rebuilt between 2009 and 2011 for commercial traffic in February 2012. Dear Esther does not follow the traditional game conventions, as it involves minimal interaction from the player and requires no choices to be made, or the tasks to be completed. Gives instead focus on story, which is told through a fragmented narrative letter as the player explores an unnamed island in the Hebrides.
